The leaves are palmately lobed, prominently veined, and sharply toothed and sit atop prickly stalks that extend to 10 ft. tall (3 m).

Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) These are Gunneras that grow along the Panamerican Highway, build during the second world war all the way from the USA to Panama. In Costa Rica it reaches 3400 metres above sealevel. For many kilometres there are Gunneras , among some interesting alpine vegetation.
